PREP TENNIS: Howle, Harrison lead Darlington past South Florence
Led by Alex Howle’s win over Austin Hill at No. 1 singles, Darlington won four of five singles matches and took down South Florence 5-1 on Monday in high school tennis.

Cheraw names field after Brewer
The Cheraw High School athletic Web site lists Tom Brewer as “the first professional athlete of merit from Cheraw.” It was only fitting then that on Saturday, the Braves renamed their baseball field after Brewer.

PREP TENNIS: West Florence shuts out Carolina Forest
Bobby Browning and Matthew Canelon racked up singles wins, then teamed up for a doubles victory over Zach Johnson and Brendan Nagle to lead West Florence to a 7-0 road win over Carolina Forest on Thursday in high school tennis.

Swamp Fox wrestling coach Micheal Steinbar said this past weekend’s wrestling tournament was a great experience for the kids. Marion High School played host to the first Swamp Fox Wrestling Invitational.

Bobcats’ Reddeck wins SCISA player of the year
After leading Carolina Academy’s girls tennis team to the SCISA Class 2A state championship, Lauren Reddeck earned another piece of hardware to add to her collection. On Sunday, the senior was named SCISA player of the year in an awards ceremony held at Wilson Hall.

The ride to the Class 3A state tennis championship came to an abrupt halt for the Wilson Tigers. Undefeated heading into Friday’s lower state final, the Tigers were blanked by Hilton Head 6-0 at Lexington County Tennis Center.
New coach, same result for Johnsonville volleyball
For the last nine years, Johnsonville volleyball making the Class A state finals was almost as predictable as the leaves changing. The streak continues today when the Flashes make their 10th straight appearance at White Knoll High School against Landrum at 11 a.m.

Laura Jones and Katlyn Howell won in singles and doubles as West Florence cruised past Stratford in the opening round of the Class 4A tennis playoffs with a 7-0 win on Tuesday. The win improves the Knights’ record to 17-2 on the season.

Third-seeded Lake View traveled to Hartsville to face The Governor’s School and swept the No. 2 Eagles in three games by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-21 in the first round of the Class A volleyball playoffs on Monday.
