No softball team in the United States has as many softball state titles as Crescent High School.  And now they have one more.  Wednesday night Crescent topped Waccamaw 3-2 to sweep the Warriors in the Class AA state title series.

In Pawleys Island, the hometown Warriors struck first with a Melaina Moore RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.  But the Tigers bounced right back in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by JeRita Adger, and a sacrifice fly by Erika Smith.

Waccamaw evened the game at 2 in the bottom of the sixth.  Nikki Legg stole third and then came home on the throw when no one covered third base.

Crescent scored the deciding run in the top of the seventh.  With two outs and a runner on third, Smith drilled a single to left off starter Ashley Czechner, and Kelsey Young came across home plate with the winning run.

Waccamaw made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh.  The Warriors had runners on second and third with two outs, but Legg popped out to the pitcher to end the game.

Despite all those titles, it’s Crescent’s first since 2001.  Waccamaw was going for their first in school history.
