PREP SOFTBALL: Strong seasons, disappointing finishes for Bruins, Flashes
The South Florence and Johnsonville softball teams made it farther than most would have thought possible at the beginning of the year. In fact, both coaches agreed the only real disappointment was how the season ended.
Gaffney sweeps S. Florence for state softball title
Megan Sexton had 80 seconds to think about her final at-bat as a Gaffney Indian. Then she made the most memorable swing of her career. Sexton drove in the go-ahead runs on Wednesday night, as the Gaffney Indians won 4-2 to clinch the school’s first softball state title.
SOFTBALL: Pee Dee players honored
The Pee Dee was well-represented when the all-state teams and rosters for the North-South softball all-star games were announced Wednesday.
SOFTBALL: Raiders’ Pickrel signs with USC Aiken
Hannah-Pamplico’s Kristian Pickrel will continue her softball career on the collegiate level. The Raiders’ third baseman signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play softball at USC Aiken.

Crescent finds way to title over Waccamaw
No softball team in the United States has as many softball state titles as Crescent High School. And now they have one more. Wednesday night Crescent topped Waccamaw 3-2 to sweep the Warriors in the Class AA state title series.

Carvers Bay Girls Varsity Softball Team captures District 6 Championship
Academic Magnet traveled to Carvers Bay Wednesday night to decide the winner for district six. Carsen Cagle had a double and two singles. Whitney Baxley had a triple with two RBI’s. Brittany Owens struck out the side in the seventh to secure the win 4 – 2.

Waccamaw wins Lower State championship behind Czechner gem
The Waccamaw softball team’s dream of its first appearance in the Class AA state championship series came down to what it usually does the right arm of Ashley Czechner.
SOFTBALL: Bruins head back to state title series
The South Florence Bruins are back in the state championship series, and they earned the right in dramatic fashion. Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a passed ball and an RBI single by Kylie Cribb sent the game into extra innings, where the Bruins finished off Stratford.
SOFTBALL: Flashes advance to state title series
Johnsonville scored all three of its runs in the first inning and Rachel Gaster shut out East Clarendon on one hit as the Flashes earned a 3-0 win Friday in the Class A lower state softball championship.

Kristan McElveen tripled in the tying run then scored the winning run on an error in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game as East Clarendon eliminated two-time defending Class A lower state softball champion Lake View 2-1.

Robert E. Lee scored four runs in the first inning and Jordan Atkinson and Jamie Douglas combined to limit Wilson Hall to three hits as Robert E. Lee beat Wilson Hall 6-2 on Monday in a softball game that ended early because of rain.
