PREP SOCCER: Trinity Collegiate earns state title game berth

DARLINGTON — Behind three goals from Rebecca Leviner and two from Lauren Burner, Trinity Collegiate defeated Greenwood Christian 8-1 on Thursday to earn its first ever SCISA 2A state championship game appearance.

Trinity will play the Beaufort Academy-Spartanburg Christian winner for the state title on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston.

“The girls are thrilled,” said Trinity coach David Rector. “They’ve worked extremely hard. They beat Greenwood 2-1 earlier in the year. To beat them 8-1 in the state semifinals shows just how much the girls have worked together to improve.”

Trinity enters the state championship at 15-2. The two losses came against Heathwood Hall and Hammond School.

In the loss to Heathwood, Trinity played 9-on-11 and without an injured Leviner.

In the loss to Hammond, Trinity played 10-on-11 and without Leviner or Molly Jones, whose 45 goals this season are a school record.

BOYS SOCCER
South Florence 4, Wilson 3

FLORENCE — Willie Bibbo and Luis Romero each had two goals as South Florence overcame a 3-0 deficit in its final regular season match.

Having defeated Wilson twice and going 2-1 against West Florence, South lays claim to the Florence city championship.
