St. James Football Preview
St. James - Marion
St. James - Marion
The St. James Sharks return fewer starters, but more players overall for 2008. That suits Coach Billy Hurston just fine.
St. James, as a school, increased its enrollment by almost 50% over the past calendar year. The turnout for the football team has had the same increase. Hurston says he’s had 96 players come out this year, while last season he had just 63.
But the Sharks have lost some key players - most notably QB Skylar Brown and RBs Ingram Bell and Brandon Tyson. But what St. James has lost in quality, they’ve gained in quantity. For the first time in school history, the team will enter the season will 11 different starters on offense and defense. As for Brown’s replacement, Hurston is excited about sophomore QB Chase Smith, who has good height and athleticism and may evolve into a very good quarterback in time at St. James.
