Preseason Terrific 13 - #13 Loris Lions

No team turned more heads this summer then the Loris Lions.  A team that scored only 6 points a game last year, and what minimal offense they had came on the ground, was suddenly competing with the big boys in passing league games.

Head Coach Jimmy Longerbeam says his team is growing up.  Over the past two years, when Loris has only won a combined four games, they started mostly freshmen and sophomores.  Those players are now juniors and seniors, and continue to improve.

The most impressive is 6 foot 5 wide receiver Philip Johnson, who’s putting a skill set together with his great frame.  Also star safety Quincy Brown comes back for his junior season to lead the defense.  QB Adam Peterson is also vastly improved, and will give Loris the opportunity to open up their offense.  This is truly not your typical Lions from the last decade.

“We knew when we started that we wouldn’t compete the first few years,“ said Longerbeam who’s entering his third year as coach. “But now I feel like we can make a run for the playoffs.“

And he’s not totally off-base.  Loris’s non-region schedule is very manageable, especially if they win their opener against North Myrtle Beach.  While they have to play Dillon and Cheraw in the region, all the other games are winnable as well.

So a great preseason for the Lions may turn into a great return trip to the postseason.

Thank You WBTW!  I just want to say that I appreciate you recognizing the Loris Lions finally! These guys and coaches work so hard all summer and never seem to get recognized for their hard work!  They have had some rough seasons but they never give up the fight!  They are a great bunch and the coaches are so great with these boys and a little moral boost never hurt anyone!  So from a football mom Thank You and we hope this is our year to shine.  We love our Lions!
