Prep football roundup: Trojans win late in key region matchup

QUINBY — Barrett Goodson caught at 6-yard pass from Lee Schurlknight with 55 seconds remaining, and Schurlknight ran in the 2-point conversion on a quarterback draw to help The Byrnes Schools beat W.W. King 30-29 on Friday in high school football.

King then drove to the Trojan 35, but Schurlknight picked off a last-ditch pass at the 2.

The Trojans (6-2, 4-0 SCISA Region 1-A) held King and got the ball back with 1:40 left at their own 36 and quickly covered the 64 yards.

Clay Dickson caught a 44-yard pass from Schurlknight to put The Byrnes Schools at the King 17 to set up the score.

Schurlknight finished 17-of-29 passing for 316 yards. Dickson caught nine passes for 167 yards.

Goodson also had 14 tackles, while Gary Williams had 11 and Brandon Smith 10 to lead the Trojans on defense.

DARLINGTON — The Falcons held a 35-21 lead in the second half, but could not hold on as the Bulldogs rallied to win.

Demario Goodson had an interception for the Falcons, and Victor Hampton had a 40-yard touchdown run.

PAMPLICO — Trevor Norris threw for a touchdown and caught one as well as the Silver Foxes improved to 7-1.

Matthew Mitchell had a TD catch for Lamar and Mason Ard recovered a fumble for H-P.

Hemingway 27, Johnsonville 0
HEMINGWAY — LaMichael Pushia rushed for 183 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers shut out the Flashes.

Marquis Wright had 11 tackles and a sack and Quintin Brown had an interception for Hemingway.

SUMMERTON — Kadeem Baxter scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Eagles shut out the Whirlwinds.

MULLINS — Kentz Hilton’s 1-yard run gave the Lions an overtime victory over the Auctioneers.

Mullins, which led 14-7 at halftime, missed a 24-yard field at the end of regulation.

George Page led the Aucs with 71 yards rushing and a TD.

LAURENS — Williamsburg Academy took an intentional safety with four minutes left, and after a Laurens touchdown, Christopher Kellahan sealed the win with an interception.

FLORENCE — Patrick Henry was able to run the final few minutes off the clock and held off The King’s Academy.

King’s quarterbak Hampton Langston was18-of-25 for 278 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Zack Gwin.

Gwin finished with 135 yards receiving and Joel Bokelman had 101.

The King’s Academy falls to 4-4 and plays at Wardlaw Academy on Friday.

Games postponed

Two Friday games were postponed until Monday.

South Florence’s home game against Carolina Forest was moved back because of a shooting incident at Carolina Forest on Friday. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff Monday.

Florence Christian and Robert E. Lee will kick off 7:30 p.m. Monday at Florence Christian.

Robert E. Lee requested the game be postponed, according to an official at Florence Christian.
