The old Marion is back.  Those were the words of St. James head coach Billy Hurston a few days after his team was man-handled by the Swamp Foxes in a scrimmage.

Second-year coach Brian Carfley is hoping that is the case.  Marion is in year two of the rebuilding phase, after they lost their coach and a region championship because of the use of an illegal player.  Last year the Swamp Foxes went 6-6, but this team could be much better.

Carfley’s said he’s most excited about his stable of running backs.  There are six he has faith in, but two in particular, Racheed Gause and Brian Gillard, have extraordinary size and speed and could be very dynamic as the season wears on.  The quarterbacking duties fall on Justin Brock - but those duties may include just handing the ball off over and over.

Carfley says the team still has some work to do on the offensive line and playing disciplined football, but there’s no question that Marion has plenty of talent, speed and quickness.  The very well may “be back.“
