Dillon Football Preview
There are two things that are synonymous with Dillon Wildcat football - a quick, hard-hitting defense, and their head coach Jackie Hayes. Both are back for 2008, and hoping that in their 17th year together, they can combine to win their first state title.
The Nasty Cat defense will be short 8 lives this year - they lost that many starters to graduating. But they return a few starters (including LB L’Twane Thompson, FS Anthony Smith and CB Kevin Dixon), and plenty of guys with experience. Last year’s defense shutout six teams, and let only two others score more than one touchdown. So the good thing about those blowouts - the backups got plenty of playing time.
Meanwhile, the legendary Hayes continues to search for that first state title. He has 181 wins at Dillon, and 13 ten win seasons in 16 years. Under Hayes, the Wildcats have won 81% of the time, and lost more than three games in a season just three times. But of course, he’s 0-3 in state title games.
