DeAndre’ Scott has been named the new head coach of the Wilson High School Boys’ Basketball Team.

Scott joins the Tiger program after serving as head coach at Myrtle Beach High School.  Under his direction, the Myrtle Beach High School Boys’ Basketball team won the AAA State Championship in 2008.  An alumnus of Wilson High School, Scott also had a head coaching stint at Chester High School.

“We are very excited for the Wilson High School basketball program,“ said Dr. Gerard S. Edwards, principal of Wilson High School. “From the start of this search, our desire was to find the person who would best fit our program here at Wilson High School and most importantly our student-athletes.”

Edwards also noted that the athletic department is committed to the continued building of a successful and championship-caliber basketball program and when taking this factor into consideration, Scott surfaced as the most desirable candidate for the position at Wilson.

“Not only has Scott been successful as both a teacher and coach, but he has also demonstrated a true commitment and appreciation for developing well-rounded and successful student-athletes,” added Dr. Edwards.

Scott replaces Bob Wilson who in March announced his decision to resign as head coach of the Wilson High School basketball team.  Coach Wilson plans to continue serving in the classroom at Wilson High.

Scott will be formally introduced at a special press conference that will be held at Wilson High School on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11:30 a.m.
