Pee Dee teams go 0-for-3 in SCISA semifinals

For most of Thursday’s SCISA basketball Class 2A state semifinal, Pee Dee Academy coach Jerry Coleman thought his team was right where it needed to be. Unfortunately for Pee Dee, the last part of the fourth quarter was when some of the Eagles’ bad tendencies showed up.

Darlington, Wilson girls meet for third time

Today’s Class 3A girls basketball lower state championship might be described as familiar foes in uncharted waters. Region 6-3A’s top two teams square off at Marlboro County High School at 7 p.m. for a state championship berth next week in Columbia, and both Darlington and Wilson have already made history.

PREP ROUNDUP: Marion girls headed to lower state final

A big third quarter helped the Marion girls earn a 66-54 win over Woodland on Tuesday and advance to its first lower state championship in decades. The Swamp Foxes outscored Woodland 18-10 in the third quarter to open up what had been a close game.

In home wins over Darlington and Swansea, Lake City had very little trouble scoring in the first two rounds of the Class 3A boys basketball playoffs, especially from 3-point range.

When Lake City head basketball coach Willie Thomas’s team found themselves down by nine in the opening minutes of Friday’s second-round playoff game against Swansea, he wasn’t overly concerned, he said.

On Friday night against Swansea, Lake City looked like a team still feeling the effects of a near-collapse against Darlington on Tuesday. But the Panthers shook off their early rust in defeating Swansea 77-62 on Friday in the second of the Class 3A boys playoffs.

Kierra Patterson scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Darlington girls defeated Hilton Head in the second round of the girls Class 3A high school basketball playoffs Thursday.
