Prep roundup: Lamar baseball stays alive in Class A playoffs

LAMAR — Lamar blew a six-run lead but rallied in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-8 victory over Green Sea-Floyds in a Class A elimination game Tuesday.
“We played well for the first five innings,” Lamar coach Alan Poole said. “But we persevered and came back.”
The Silver Foxes led 7-1 going into the sixth inning but the Trojans rallied for seven runs, most of which came from Lamar errors.
Lamar, however, came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and Garris Amerson’s RBI single scored Trevor Norris for the game-winner.
Reece Poole went the distance, striking out 10 to pick up the win.

Knights tie for 12th at state tournament
GREENVILLE — The West Florence golf team finished tied for 12th as the Class 4A state tournament wrapped up at Furman University.
West shot a 320 Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 957, tying with Lexington.
Steve Behr led the Knights with a 235 and was followed by Brooks Dubose (240), Zac Jones (246) Andrew Florio and Jordan M arsh (248).
Dutch Fork (911) won the title by two shots over Dorman.Dutch Fork’s Mark Joye (214) was the tournament’s medalist.
Hartsville’s Preston Dixon competed as individual and finished with a 241.
SOCCER
South Florence 2, Stratford 1
GOOSE CREEK — South Florence’s boys defeated Stratford in the first round of the Class
4A playoffs.
Willie Bibbo had both goals, the first assisted by Alex Bull and the second by Luis Romero. Goalkeeper Thomas Walker had eight saves.
The next round of playoffs is on Thursday with the Bruins taking on the winner of Irmo and Fort Dorchester.

FLORENCE — Drew Wescott and Clint Butler combined on a No. 2 doubles win that gave Irmo a victory in the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs and ended the Knights’ attempt for a three-peat.
