Prep Roundup: Hanna powers Flashes past Lamar

JOHNSONVILLE — Charlton Hanna capped his eight-RBI day with a sixth-inning grand slam as the Johnsonville baseball team rallied to beat Lamar 15-13 on Saturday in the Class A lower state playoffs.

The two teams combined for 27 hits in a back-and-forth contest. Trailing 9-6 in the fifth inning, Rob Joye’s grand slam helped the Silver Foxes earn an 11-9 advantage. Joye finished with six RBI for Lamar.

The Flashes tied the score in the bottom half of the fifth, then retook the lead the next inning with Hanna’s heroics.

JOHNSONVILLE — Taylor Prosser’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Johnsonville to a win over East Clarendon in the Class A lower state playoffs.

Battling an ear infection, Johnsonville starter Rachel Gaster tossed seven strong innings, allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Gaster was also able to pitch out of a bases-loaded, one out jam in the third inning.

COLUMBIA — Jasmine Holliday homered to lead off the game and Kaiti Harper threw seven strong innings as South Florence advanced in the Class 4A lower state playoffs.

Holliday was 2-for-4 and scored three runs. Ashley Young and Kesley Pruitt each drove in two runs as South Florence built a 3-1 lead through five innings, then put the game out of reach with a four-run seventh.

Sydney Weatherford homered for the Bobcats and Lauren Reddeck drove in three runs.

CHARLESTON — Spartanburg Christian scored twice in the first half and held off Trinity for the SCISA 2A state championship.

Molly Jones scored Trinity’s goal off an assist from Natalie Hahn with four minutes to play.

GOLF
Marlboro Academy wins, state championship

CONWAY — Marlboro Academy defeated nine other teams to win the SCISA Class 2A state championship at Quail Creek Golf Club on the campus of Coastal Carolina on April 27 and 28. 

The Dragons shot a two-day total of 646 to defeat defending champion Richard Winn Academy by nine strokes.
