LAKE CITY — Post 1 inched even closer to a spot in next week’s American Legion state tournament.

Chandler Smetana homered and drove in four runs and Spencer Jordan pitched eight strong inningas Florence defeated Lake City 11-3 on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five second-round series.

Florence goes for the sweep tonight at Legion Field to earn a spot in the state tournament, which begins next Wednesday in Spartanburg.

“We want to go and hopefully finish things off so we can get ready for next week and get some rest,” Florence coach Derick Urquhart said.

Florence has outscored Lake City 32-6 in the first two games and has won 19 straight games.

About the only thing Urquhart wasn’t happy with is the team’s miscues. Florence had four errors Tuesday night.

“This is a bad time to have those kind of errors,” Urquhart said. “I told them we can’t expect to do it next week and win.”Tyler Boyd led Florence with four hits.
Jordan also added three in addition to getting the win on the mound.

Jordan allowed one earned run while striking out 11

Reggie Weatherford led Lake City with two hits and an RBI.

Dustin Garrand took the loss for Post 73.
