Marion holds off Mullins in Legion baseball action
Marion Post 1 and pitcher Ross White picked up the 4-2 victory over Mullins Post 89 Friday at Fox Field.

Lake City’s Weatherford earns MVP honors in All-Star game
Lake City’s Reggie Weatherford went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to earn MVP honors as the South 2A/3A All-Stars defeated the North A/4A All-Stars 8-5 on Saturday.
Post 1 blanks Cherryville
Spencer Matthews pitched a four-hit shutout as Post 1 defeated Cherryville 3-0 on day two of the N.C. vs. S.C. Legion Challenge.
Dustin Britt had an RBI double for Florence and Cody Ritch had a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Teams split North/South All-Star games at Watson Stadium
The stars were out at Watson Stadium at CCU on Friday night. The remaining South Carolina baseball stars not playing in the Select game were divvied up for the North/South All-Star Games. Team South won the Class AA/AAA game 1-0, while Team North won the Class A/AAAA game 8-4.
Holmes struggles as North beats South in the All-Star Select game
The USC signee only made it two innings in the North/South Select All-Star Game at BB&T Coastal Field. The Tarheels crushed the Sandlappers 9-2.

Banner Tuesday for Post 1 coach
Tuesday was quite a day for Post 1 coach Derick Urquhart. At 7:40 p.m., Urquhart became a father with the birth of Catherine Dawes. About two hours later, Florence defeated Georgetown 6-4 for Urquhart’s 100th career win as a coach.
North Myrtle’s Faulk selected by Braves on Day 3
North Myrtle Beach High School’s Tripp Faulk was selected by the Atlanta Braves in round 38 of the Major League Baseball First Year Players Draft.

Charlie Abbott pitched six shutout innings as Post 1 defeated Bishopville 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Robert E. Lee.
Bishopville used a six-run second inning to win second gae, 6-5.

LEGION BASEBALL NOTEBOOK: Post 1 using early power surge
Post 1’s power production wasn’t supposed to be a strong point for the 2008 squad, coach Derick Urquhart said before the season began. His team responded by belting 32 homers, the most in Urquhart’s tenure.

Post 1 hit three home runs and beat Conway 10-0 in a run-ruled game Tuesday night at Legion Field. The season opener for both teams also saw Florence starting pitcher Robbie Brown turn in a solid performance, allowing just five hits in six innings of shutout ball
Forest’s Shover signs with Salkehatchie
Chris Shover has had a long high school trip, that’s brought him from Vermont to South Carolina, from out of baseball, to back into it. Despite the rocky road, Shover realized his dream Monday, by getting the opportunity to play college ball.

Post 1 ready for new season
Building chemistry is an essential part of any team, and for Post 1, the process began in earnest Friday at the second annual media/fan day. Members of both the junior and senior American Legion teams were on hand to participate in the Garnet vs. Gray game and to get to know each other a little better.

The All-State baseball teams were recently announced and the Pee Dee had 11 players who were selected.
LEGION: Post 1 ready for intrasquad scrimmage
The Florence Post 1 American Legion baseball team will hold its annual Garnet vs. Gray intrasquad game and media night today at 6 p.m. at Legion Field. Admission is free and it is the public’s first chance to see both the senior and junior legion team members in action.

It seemed a foregone conclusion that Wando’s baseball team would beat Conway on Friday night and advance to the Class AAAA State Championship Series.
BASEBALL: Bamberg-Ehrhardt wins twice to eliminate Johnsonville
For the second time in three years, Johnsonville’s quest for the lower state championship was thwarted on its home field by Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Red Raiders won 4-3 and 7-2 on Friday to advance to the Class A state championship series.

Johnsonville High boys, girls ready to bring home titles
The town of Johnsonville is home to only about 1,500 people, and all of them might be at the high school on Friday night. Both the baseball and softball teams are playing host to lower state championship games, with a berth in the state title game on the line.
