American Legion baseball: Conway tops Florence
The last team to qualify for the American Legion state championship has made it to the last day of the tournament. James Floro, who pitched Conway into the event with a play-in game victory earlier this week, kept Post 111 alive for the title Saturday with a complete-game performance to beat rival Florence, 4-2, at Duncan Park Stadium.
Post 1’s winning streak ends at 22
Florence’s 22-game winning streak ended early Saturday morning with a 5-2 loss to Irmo-Chapin in the American Legion state tournament being held at Duncan Park Stadium.

Florence starting pitcher Spencer Jordan didn’t expect to go the entire nine innings Wednesday night in a 5-1 win against host Spartanburg in the opening round of the American Legion state championship tournament at Duncan Park Stadium.

Comeback kids? No need for that title this year. The seemingly impossible late-inning rallies that defined Florence Post 1’s 2008 season were replaced this year by dominant performances and lopsided scores. Comebacks are rarely required when a team averages 10.5 runs a game.

Florence rolls past Lake City
Post 1 inched even closer to a spot in next week’s American Legion state tournament. Chandler Smetana homered and drove in four runs and Spencer Jordan pitched eight strong inningas Florence defeated Lake City 11-3 on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five second-round series.

Post 1 goes up 2-0 in series against Manning
Post 1 used small ball to take command of its first-round Legion baseball series against Manning. Florence had four bunt hits and scored six runs over the first four innings to defeat Manning 12-5 on Tuesday.
Post 1 cruises in series opener
You’d be hard pressed to find a hotter Legion baseball team than Florence Post 1. In Monday night’s opening game of the state playoffs, Post 1 blasted its way to an 11-1 win in seven innings over Manning Post 68.
