The Hartsville High School volleyball team has gotten off to a 6-5 start to the 2008 season after victories over West Florence on Thursday, Sept. 18, and Darlington on Monday, Sept. 22.
The team defeated West Florence in straight sets 25-21, 25-19 and 25-12 and defeated Darlington in the same fashion 25-9, 25-11 and 25-9.
The team is drawing on the experience of having played together last year. Shanequa Ham and Shavonne Seymore are the only two members of last year’s team that graduated, so the team has experience playing together. That experience is getting the team closer to where head coach Amanda Easter-ling wants them. “We are slowly getting closer to playing the varsity level volleyball I’m looking for,” Easterling said. “I have high expectations for future games.”
Against West Floren-ce, the girls overcame some adversity from a substitution error and managed to dominate the Lady Knights. “I thought the game was very exciting,” Easterling said of the contest with West Florence. “I was very proud that the girls played strong and together for a very good win. I thought they were able to keep a positive attitude and really dominated the match.”
The Lady Foxes faced South Florence in Florence on Tuesday night and will travel to face Sumter High School Thursday night at 6 p.m.
