Spurrier, Gamecocks on tap at SEC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier gets his say at the Southeastern Conference preseason football meetings.

Spurrier and two Gamecocks, receiver Kenny McKinley and linebacker Jasper Brinkley, will talk about the upcoming season to SEC media on Friday.

But Spurrier is likely to be more reserved than he was a year ago. In 2007, Spurrier said he thought the Gamecocks were ready to challenge for an SEC title.

But South Carolina finished with five straight defeats to end at 6-6. This time, Spurrier has said he’ll keep team goals within the team and let South Carolina’s performance speak for itself.
