South Carolina defensive end Clifton Geathers is facing several charges following an incident at a nightclub.
Multiple media outlets reported Sunday that Columbia police charged Geathers, who played at Carvers Bay, with public drunkeness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
A call to police spokesman Brick Lewis was not immediately returned Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say it took two officers to handcuff the 6-foot-8, 281-pound Geathers, who was not complying with police commands, swinging his arms wildly as an officer tried to detain him Sunday morning at Club ICE.
Geathers was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Under school policy, Geathers is suspended until his case is resolved.
The junior is projected to start at defensive end. Last year, Geathers played in all 13 games, and had 29 tackles, including 17 solo.
