Gamecock Club meeting set for Thursday
The Pee Dee Gamecock Club will hold their annual spring meeting Thursday at Florence Civic Center. South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier, USC basketball coach Darrin Horn, Gamecock cheerleaders and dance team as well as Cocky will be in attendance.
Horn denies Xavier rumors
South Carolina men’s basketball coach Darrin Horn said Monday he was in Cincinnati last week on personal business — not speaking to Xavier about its vacant coaching job.

Spring game could tell tale at QB
Some will say it’s just a spring game, a glorified scrimmage, no reason to go crazy. The naysayers will say so if Stephen Garcia goes out today and shines at USC’s spring football game. His supporters will say the same if he struggles.

South Carolina rallies to beat Clemson, 7-6
DeAngelo Mack lined a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally South Carolina to a 7-6 victory Tuesday over Clemson, giving the Gamecocks six straight wins in the series and nine of the last ten.

Downey to test NBA draft waters
South Carolina junior point guard Devan Downey has announced today that he will submit his name for the pool for the 2009 NBA Draft. Downey will not hire an agent, leaving open the opportunity to return to the Gamecocks for his senior season.

Arkansas beats South Carolina 7-4
Chase Leavitt batted in two runs in the fifth inning Sunday to help Arkansas overcome a four-run deficit and beat South Carolina 7-4.

Gamecocks take series opener vs. LSU 7-3
South Carolina homered four times and behind seven innings of two-hit ball from sophomore right-hander Sam Dyson defeated fifth ranked LSU 7-3 on Friday evening in game one of a three-game SEC baseball series at Carolina Stadium.

USC bounced from NIT
Stephen Curry’s showed he’s still spectacular in the postseason, no matter the tournament. Curry scored 32 points Tuesday night, leading Davidson (27-7) to a 70-63 victory over South Carolina in the opening round of the NIT.
Garcia ready to play this spring
It’s been a unique spring practice so far for Stephen Garcia. He’s made it through two practices without a suspension and he’s South Carolina’s lone quarterback with experience.
NCAA top scorer Curry takes aim at USC
Three years ago at Richland Northeast High, a scrawny guard from a Charlotte school made quite an impression. Back then, Stephen Curry was known more for being Dell’s son when he took the court for the Chick-fil-A Classic.

Mississippi State knocks off South Carolina 82-68
Barry Stewart scored 21 points, most of them from 3-point range, and Mississippi State beat South Carolina 82-68 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament.

DeAngelo Mack hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the ninth to lead South Carolina to a 3-1 win over Clemson on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (4-0) have won five in a row and eight of the last nine against the in-state rival Tigers (4-1). The teams will play Sunday afternoon in Columbia.

Gamecock-Vols game on ESPN
USC said Thursday that ESPN had decided to show the Gamecocks’ final regular-season home game with Tennessee on March 5. Bobby Knight, who won three NCAA tournament crowns at Indiana, will call the game with play-by-play announcer Brent Musburger.
