USC’s Geathers arrested

South Carolina defensive end Clifton Geathers is facing several charges following an incident at a nightclub. Multiple media outlets reported Sunday that Columbia police charged Geathers, who played at Carvers Bay, with public drunkeness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Gamecocks to offer two-game ticket plans

South Carolina football fans will be able to buy tickets in pairs. The school is offering two-game ticket plans beginning today. Only one of the seven games at Williams-Brice Stadium this season won’t be available under the latest offer.

Chiefs waive Barth, make room for Succop

The Kansas City Chiefs have waived kicker Connor Barth, likely clearing the way for seventh-round draft pick Ryan Succop to be the team’s starter this season. Barth played in 10 games for the Chiefs last season, making 10 of 12 field goals as a rookie, but the 2-14 Chiefs struggled mightily on special teams.

UNC delays USC series

The next battle for football supremacy in the Carolinas looks like it will be put on hold for a couple of years. South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman will allow North Carolina out of its 2010 game in Columbia, but only if the Tar Heels agree to make up the game in the “very near future” and a suitable replacement is found for next year’s schedule.

Steve Spurrier cleared up the biggest mystery at Southeastern Conference media days: How Tim Tebow got left off a preseason All-SEC ballot.
Spurrier said Friday that South Carolina’s director of football operations Jamie Speronis filled out the ballot in his stead and voted for Mississippi’s Jevan Snead.

USC’s Dalles signs with Orioles

South Carolina junior catcher Justin Dalles has signed a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles. A sixth-round selection by the Orioles in last week’s Major League Baseball draft, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Dalles leaves after his only season in Columbia. The second-team All-SEC standout batted .324 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI in 55 games for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina’s Mack signs with Yankees

South Carolina outfielder DeAngelo Mack is turning pro, signing with the New York Yankees.
The school says Monday that the junior has agreed to terms and will sign a contract the Yankees, who selected Mack in the 13th round of last week’s draft.

USC’s Downey decides to return

Devan Downey had three options, and only one was good for the South Carolina basketball team. In the end, Downey chose USC, and the Gamecocks now are in position to build on last season.

South Carolina is getting its all-Southeastern Conference guard back as Devan Downey said Saturday he is returning to school for his senior season.
The 5-foot-9 player worked out for several NBA teams before making his decision two days before the deadline.
