Local college roundup: Clinton’s goal leads FMU men past LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. — Senior Kyle Clinton’s tie-breaking goal in the 58th minute gave Francis Marion a 2-1 win over 23rd-ranked Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday in men’s college soccer action.
Francis Marion improves to 10-3-3 in the key Southeast Region match-up, while the Railsplitters drop to 9-3-1.
FMU goalie Clark Richeson finished with four saves.
Anderson shuts out Coker
HARTSVILLE — The Coker Cobras were unable to top the 15th-ranked Trojans of Anderson as they defeated the Cobras 2-0 behind goals from Paulo Passini and Rayon Markland.
Coker falls to 10-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference.
Trojans top Cobra women
HARTSVILLE — Ashley Cotton tallied seven points as the Anderson Trojans spoiled the Coker Cobras senior day with a 6-1 victory in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action.
Cotton had a hat trick, while adding an assist in the victory, improving the Trojans to 7-8 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The loss drops Coker to 0-15 on the year and 0-10 in the conference.

Cobras get first home win
HARTSVILLE — In a thrilling five-set match, the Coker volleyball team picked up its first home victory of the season, St. Augustine’s College 3-2.
FMU drops two matches
GREENWOOD — Francis Marion fell by identical 3-0 scores in two matches at Lander University’s Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament.
In its morning match, the Patriots (11-14) fell to Limestone and in its evening match, Francis Marion lost to 24-ranked Wingate.

FMU places 7th and 10th at PBC Championships
LUMBERTON, N.C. — The Francis Marion men’s and women’s cross country teams placed seventh and 10th at the PBC Championships.
Senior Hillary Kiprop led the FMU men with a 15th-place finish. Senior Amanda Doyle paced the women runners with a 37th-place showing.
Coker runners compete in Conference Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Coker cross country teams competed in the Conference Carolinas Championships at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday. The Cobra women placed ninth out of 12teams while the Cobra men were 11th out of 11 teams.
