Paul Leese is wiping the slate clean as he begins his first season as Coker men’s soccer coach. “I told them all starting positions are up for grabs and even if you are returning prove yourself again,” Leese said.

Coker Volleyball Picked 12th in Preseason Poll

High Point, NC- Pfeiffer University’s women’s volleyball team has been selected as the league favorite by Conference Carolinas head coaches for the 2009 season. The Lady Falcons set a new school record with 27 wins last year, surpassing the old mark of 20 wins in 2007. Overall, Pfeiffer racked up a 27-6 record with an impressive 18-2 mark in conference play to claim the regular season championship title.

Marsh’s U.S. Amateur Run Comes to an End

Coker College senior golfer, Chris Marsh, failed to make the cut at the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday afternoon. Marsh shot a 12 over, 82 on the first day of the championship and then shot an eight over, 78 on day two.

High Point, NC- After taking the conference title two years ago, Queens University of Charlotte looks to return to the top of the Conference Carolinas podium for 2009. The Royals have been selected to the No. 1 spot in this year’s preseason poll as voted on by league head coaches.

Sheftic will miss cut at PGA Championship

Former Coker standout Mark Sheftic won’t be playing the weekend at the PGA Championship.
Sheftic fired a plus-6 78 Friday in the second round and is plus-10 after two rounds. The projected cut is at plus-3.

Coker basketball to open season against Pitt

Coker College head basketball coach, Dan Schmotzer, announced today that the Cobras will open the 2009-10 season by traveling to play the University of Pittsburgh in an exhibition game. In addition to the release of their 2009-10 schedule, Coach Schmotzer also announced the signing of 11 new players joining the Cobras this season.

Johnsonville’s Davis headed to Coker

Johnsonville’s Mattheew Davis is headed to play baseball at Coker College.
Davis was a four-year letterman for the Flashes. An All-Region and All-Pee Dee team selection, Davis batted .405 this season with seven home runs and 41 RBI, while being selected as a Wendy’s High School Heisman winner.

The Coker golf team moved up three spots and finished 11th in the final round of the Division II South/Southeast Super Regional at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals. Coker finished with a three-day total of plus-27 (891) and were tied with West Florida.

Coker to host Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament

Coker College is set to host the 2009 Conference Carolinas softball tournament, April 17-19 at Byerly Park in Hartsville. The tournament will get started with some pre-tourney festivities on Thursday, April 16, at 6:00 p.m. including a team banquet and awards ceremony, followed by the first ever Line Drive Contest.
