CCU celebrates Hoopla ‘09

CCU is under a month away from starting the 09-10 basketball season.  On Monday night in Kimbel Arena, Coastal fans showed how excited they were for hoops season to begin.

The Coastal Carolina University men’s and women’s basketball teams participated in the Hoopla 09 basketball event. The event was to get Chanticleers fans fired up for the upcoming 2009-10 men’s and women’s basketball season.

The event started with the Taste of Coastal, which featured local restaurants throughout the Grand Strand. Rotelli’s won the event, which was decided on a fan vote. In Kimbel Arena, a step show and balloon stomp for cash preceded the introductions of the teams.

There also was a hot shot contest, which Dexter Moore, Lauren Grochowski and Amy Haggard won.  Mario Edwards won the slam-dunk contest. The two teams also scrimmaged for 15 minutes.

Both teams will open the 2009-10 season Friday, Nov. 13. The women face Southern Virginia at 5 p.m., while the men face the College of Charleston at 7:30 p.m.
