Tough day for locals at US Open sectional qualifying
A handful of local golfers were just one great day of golf away from playing in the US Open. But none of them were able to have that magical day that could have sent them to Bethpage Black.

McCully expecting early call in draft
Nick McCully hopes he’s made his last pitch for Coastal Carolina. Not that he didn’t love his three year pitching for the black and teal, but if he’s back with the Chanticleers, that means that this week’s Major League Baseball First Year Players draft was a total disappointment.

Tarheels thump Chants 14-5 at Chapel Hill Regional
The second-seeded Coastal Carolina University baseball team fell to top-seed and #4 National Seed North Carolina 14-5 Saturday in game four of the 2009 Chapel Hill Regional at Boshamer Stadium. Coastal Carolina now will play Kansas on Sunday at 1 p.m., in an elimination game of the regional.

Chants opens Chapel Hill Regional with an 11-3 win over Kansas
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The second-seeded Coastal Carolina University baseball team (47-14) opened the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with an 11-3 win over Kansas (37-23) May 29 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nick McCully threw seven strong innings for the Chanticleers, while the top three of the Coastal Carolina order reached base 10 times with six runs-batted-in.

CCU pitchers seek continued success with role reversal
Coastal Carolina baseball coach Gary Gilmore made the decision in late April to take two of the best Chanticleer pitchers ever - two former Big South pitchers of the year - and change their roles. That decision turned out to be picture perfect.

CCU to head to Chapel Hill for baseball regional
The Coastal Carolina University baseball team will travel to the University of North Carolina for the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, it was announced Monday. Coastal Carolina and North Carolina will be joined by the University of Kansas and Dartmouth University in the four-team, double-elimination field.

CCU brings home Big South title yet again
Coastal Carolina used timely hitting and solid pitching to defeat Winthrop 7-1 Saturday and win the 2009 Royal Purple Big South Conference Baseball Championship at historic McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C. The Chanticleers win their third consecutive Big South baseball tournament championship and Big South-record 10th title overall.

Chanticleers ‘Gagg’ away lead to Radford
Coastal Carolina came into their second game of the Big South Tournament having won 13 straight games against Radford. But streaks are made to be broken. The Highlanders scored nine straight runs, including seven in the 8th and 9th innings, to top Coastal Carolina 11-7 Thursday.

Chanticleers dominate Big South awards
Coastal Carolina won its third straight Big South regular season title. On Wednesday they racked up the three major postseason awards.
Coastal rolls in first round of Big South over VMI
The top ranked team in the Big South tournament had no problem rolling over the bottom ranked team on day two. Coastal Carolina toppled VMI 9-4 in Game 1 of the Big South Tournament in Asheville, NC.

The 22nd-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (41-13, 20-5 Big South) clinched the outright Big South regular-season title and the number-one seed in the upcoming Big South Tournament with a 6-4 win over Charleston Southern (16-35, 10-14 Big South) May 15 in Conway.

Campbell University to rejoin Big South Conference
The Big South Conference Council of Chief Executive Officers has voted to add Campbell University as a full member of the League, beginning July 1, 2011, it was announced today by Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander.

CCU head football coach David Bennett played host to the Collin’s Kids Golf Tournament Monday morning at The Members Club at Grand Dunes. A full field battled through rain to help raise money for youths in Horry County.

CCU baseball sweeps doubleheader with VMI
The 23rd-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of VMI by taking both ends of a doubleheader Sunday in Conway. Coastal Carolina won the first game 8-0 and took the nightcap 4-2.

The 22nd-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (34-13, 13-5 Big South) opened the key Big South series against Liberty (29-15, 16-5 Big South) with a come-from-behind 13-7 win over the Flames May 1 in Conway, S.C. The game was televised on ESPNU.

Coastal Carolina has had a strong golf team for years. But thanks to a phenomenal first year and a half on the PGA tour, Dustin Johnson has put the program on the national map. Come next year, Johnson may have some coastal company on the tour.

CCU baseball falls to the College of Charleston 13-7
The 22nd-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (32-13) fell to the College of Charleston (27-16) 13-7 April 28 in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The Cougars took all three games against the Chanticleers in the midweek series. The College of Charleston scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to catapult them to the victory.

CCU women’s track team takes home Big South ‘triple crown’
RADFORD, Va.- The Coastal Carolina women’s track and field team won the 2009 Big South Conference Championship Saturday in Radford, Va. The team victory gives the Chants the Big South “Triple Crown,“ in which the team has now won the Big South cross country, indoor, and outdoor titles.
