Coastal rallies past Gardner-Webb

Carolina Forest’s Tommy Fraser scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter and Coastal Carolina rallied to beat Gardner-Webb 26-21 on Saturday.
Fraser, who had 90 yards rushing, scored on a 4-yard run with 4:17 to play for the Chanticleers (4-5, 2-2 Big South). Zach MacDowall went 25-for-42 with 332 yards. He threw touchdowns of 25 yards to Akeem Wesley and 39 yards to Marcus Whitener. The Chanticleers rolled up 473 yards of total offense.

Clemson rolls past Coastal Carolina 49-3

Jacoby Ford caught a touchdown and threw for his first career score as Clemson won its third straight game, beating Coastal Carolina 49-3 on Saturday. The Tigers (5-3) made headlines a week ago and star C.J. Spiller had a record 310 all-purpose yards to run his way into the Heisman Trophy race in a 40-37 overtime win at then-No. 8 Miami.

Flames hammer Chanticleers

Aldreakis Allen ran for three touchdowns and Liberty routed Coastal Carolina 58-13 on Saturday.
It was the 12th straight Big South Conference win for the Flames. The last time the Flames lost in the conference was Oct. 28, 2006, to Coastal Carolina.

Trio of Chants named Players of the Week

Coastal Carolina’s win Saturday over VMI was an all-around victory.  The Big South honored in as such by giving CCU players three of the weekly awards.

CCU’s Nyhoff wins league honor

Senior Jill Nyhof of the Coastal Carolina volleyball team earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors, announced today by the league office.

Chanticleers take care of Keydets

Zach MacDowall threw for 207 yards and a touchdown to lead Coastal Carolina to a 20-6 victory over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday night.
MacDowall was 14 of 20 and gave the Chanticleers (3-2, 1-0 Big South Conference) a 7-3 lead on a 41-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Sullivan with 5:44 left in the first quarter.

Brown earns Big South honor

Coastal Carolina’s defense was dominating on Saturday night, and Monday one of its key components was honored by the conference.  Coastal Carolina linebacker E.J. Brown was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against North Carolina A&T.

O’Neal carries Chants past Aggies

Eric O’Neal rushed for 130 yards and Coastal Carolina defeated North Carolina A&T 28-7 on Saturday night.
O’Neal, who had 23 carries, led a rushing attack which gained 304 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Chants tennis players fare well in doubles matches

The Coastal Carolina men’s tennis team competed at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on September 18-20, hosted by Georgia. Frequent rain caused the tournament to cancel the last day of the matches.

Towson holds off Coastal

Peter Athens threw two touchdown passes, leading Towson in a 21-17 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday night. Towson (1-1) snapped a six-game losing streak dating back to Oct. 11, 2008.

Chants volleyball falls to Charlotte

In a tough four-set match, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell to Charlotte 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17) in the first match of the Myrtle Beach Comfort Suites Invitational on Sept. 18.

Jamie Childers may finally make his first start for the Chanticleers Saturday at Towson.  Via text message, David Bennett said that Childers will “probably” start as but incumbent starter Zach MacDowall will be available.

“Smokin’” Joe Frazier was known for his vicious left hooks and the blows he would deliver in the boxing ring.  Coastal has its own Fraser, and he delivered the knock out punch in their home opening victory.

O’Neal carries Coastal past Monmouth

Eric O’Neal ran for two touchdowns to lead Coastal Carolina to a 24-17 win over Monmouth on Saturday night.
O’Neal had 64 yards rushing on 17 carries for the Chanticleers (1-1), who totaled 207 yards on the ground.

Football coaches and scouts spend hours and hours implementing game plans, strategies, and audibles, but when it comes down to it it’s a simple game you have to score to win. And it’s been a long time since Coastal Carolina has scored a point.

Coastal sweeps Eastern Kentucky 3-0 in Gamecock Invitational

After a tough day Friday with two losses, the Coastal Carolina University volleyball team came out fighting in its last match of the weekend to get a win against Eastern Kentucky at the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina.  The Chanticleers came out victorious with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18) sweep of the Colonels.

Chanticleers blanked in opener

Eugene Jarvis ran for 141 yards and a touchdown to lead Kent State to an 18-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Thursday night. Jarvis also returned five punts for 77 yards and caught three passes for 30 yards.
