Clemson’s losing streak hits 10 in 6-2 defeat

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Barrett Shaft went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs as Western Carolina beat Clemson 6-2 on Tuesday night.

The Tigers (18-18) have now lost 10 in a row, setting a new school record.

The Catamounts (17-18) had 12 hits, while Clemson had just five hits.

The Tigers led 2-1 going into the seventh inning, but Shaft’s two-run homer put Western Carolina up 3-2. Shaft came back with a two-run single in the ninth.

Clemson left five men on base in the final three innings.

Matt Sanders had a solo home run in the third for the Tigers.

Catamounts reliever Drew Saberhagen (3-3) allowed just one hit in 2 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win, while Tyler Sexton allowed a hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his second save.

Clemson reliever Matt Vaughn (0-2) allowed two runs on four hits in four innings to pick up the loss.
