CLEMSON — Xavier Dye will remain at Clemson after all.
Earlier today, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney told WCCP-FM that the receiver asked for his release so he could transfer.
But after meeting with Swinney, Dye will remain at Clemson but will not play in Saturday’s game against Boston College.
Dye began the season as a starter, but dropped a pass against Middle Tennessee. He was moved to second team at practice the next week and did not play in a 30-27 loss at Georgia Tech on Sept. 10.
Swinney says Dye has been a bit inconsistent this season. Brandon Clear has replaced Dye in the starting lineup. Dye had been listed as a backup for Saturday’s game.
Dye is a 6-foot-5 junior from Greenwood and has 11 career catches for 129 yards and one touchdown.
