Davis running toward NFL

"Everyone at Clemson has been very supportive in my development, whether it be as a player or academically. I will return some day to earn my degree. That is very important to me and my family.
"But, in evaluating my current overall situation, I think this is the best decision for me and my family. I have enjoyed my experience here and will always be a Clemson Tiger."
Davis was Clemson's top rusher each of the last three years, the first Clemson running back to lead the Tigers in rushing for three consecutive years since Raymond Priester from 1995-97. He was first-team All-ACC each of the last two years, the first Clemson running back to be first-team All-ACC in consecutive years since Terry Allen in 1987-88.
A two-time first-team All-ACC selection and ACC Rookie of the Year in 2005,
"James had an outstanding career at Clemson and made a great contribution to our program on the field and in terms of team leadership," said Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden. " In our meeting today I recommended that he return for his senior year because I thought it would benefit his career. I am disappointed that he will not return for 2008, but I will do everything I can to help him as he prepares for his future.. I think he will have an excellent professional career."
