Phillip Morris will get his chance to play in the NFL.
The former Timmonsville and South Carolina State standout signed a two-year free agent contract Monday with the Tennessee Titans.
“I’m very excited,” Morris said. “It’s a lifelong dream. Now, I got to make the best of it.”
Morris was one of the last ones to hear about the announcement because his cell phone died Sunday night on the way back to S.C. State.
“When I turned it back there were so many messages,” Morris said. “It’s a great feeling.”
Morris, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound receiver, had his best season in 2008, catching 37 passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns to help the Bulldogs to the MEAC championship and a berth in the Division I-AA playoffs.
Morris is leaving for Nashville on Thursday and will participate in the team’s two-day workout beginning Friday.
“I feel like I got a good chance to make the team,” Morris said. “I just got to work hard, keep my head on straight, be coachable and hopefully I can have a good career in the NFL.”
