Stephen Behr and Andrew Florio shared meddalist honors as each shot a 33 to lead West Florence to a win over Wilson and South Florence at Crossings Golf Club on Tuesday in high school golf action.

Bob Wilson knows that when the basketballs are rolled out next October, there will be a part of him that wants to be in the gym.

Tonight, Wilson’s history will be celebrated when the inaugural class of the school’s sports hall of fame is inducted in a ceremony at Oakdale Country Club.

Darlington won the fourth quarter and is heading to its first state championship following a 61-53 over rival Wilson on Friday in the Class 3A lower state title game at Marlboro County.

Today’s Class 3A girls basketball lower state championship might be described as familiar foes in uncharted waters. Region 6-3A’s top two teams square off at Marlboro County High School at 7 p.m. for a state championship berth next week in Columbia, and both Darlington and Wilson have already made history.

Bob Wilson’s formula for building a winning basketball team isn’t really all that complicated. “We like to get guys who really enjoy playing basketball,” Wilson said. “If they enjoy it, they’ll work hard at it and learn everything they can.”

After a back-and-forth first quarter against Crestwood on Friday, the Wilson Tigers looked to gain the upper hand to start the second. Trevonte Dixon’s 3-pointer gave them a spark, and Alan-Michael Thompson’s alley-oop dunk helped them catch fire.

Wilson may have one of their leading scorers back Friday night for a big region showdown with Crestwood.  Shamel Bracket has missed the last two games with a strained quad, but returned to practice on Thursday.

On Monday, the Wilson Tigers set out to accomplish something they’ve failed twice before to do — beat Myrtle Beach in the championship game of the Pee Dee Invitational girls basketball tournament.

Tuesday’s game between Mullins and Wilson pitted two of the top programs in the Pee Dee against each other in a rare non-region marquee matchup. But after it was over, even Tigers coach Bob Wilson couldn’t believe the margin of victory.

Last Friday, Wilson and West Florence played a close game for one quarter before the Tigers rolled to an easy win.
On Friday, the two squads met again in boys basketball action. And it was a close game for a half before Wilson asserted its dominance in a 56-40 victory.
