The South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) Region Five Band Clinic Auditions were held at West Florence High School on Saturday. These auditions are held yearly in five regions of the state to recognize outstanding achievements among the band students of South Carolina.

Malliciah Goodman will put a cap on his high school playing career today and get ready for college. The West Florence defensive end will take part in today’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

For Lake City, Monday’s game was another step in the right direction, coach Willie Thomas said. For Timmonsville, it was a much-needed reality check, coach Gerald Wright said.

West Florence defensive lineman Malliciah Goodman and Myrtle Beach wide receiver Jamere Valentine have both been named finalists for the 2008 Mr. Football Award.

It’s always been a goal. Since Trey Woodberry took over the West Florence Knights in 2005, winning a Class 4A playoff game has always been high on the list of things to accomplish.

West Florence entered Friday night’s regular-season finale against cross-town rival South Florence controlling it’s own playoff destiny. The Knights took care of business and secured the third and final playoff spot in Region 6-4A with a 49-14 win against the Bruins.

After allowing 223 rushing yards to Seth Moreland in a loss to Conway, Hartsville’s football squad faced the daunting task of facing West Florence and Paul Pizzuti. Unfortunately for the Red Foxes, Pizzuti brought company with him.
