Coastal Carolina University has announced the creation of a new center that will recognize local American military veterans and preserve a record of their service.

Local military veterans and their families were honored during a special ceremony at Marion Intermediate School on Friday, Nov. 6. 

Downtown Mullins was the site of the annual Marion County Veterans Day Parade Saturday Nov. 7. As citizens lined along Main Street, military veterans and several parade participants strolled city street as cheers showed an appreciation for the contributions from the nation’s best and brightest.

It’s been quite a while since retired U.S. Army Col. Charles P. Murray has fought in battle. He served in both World War II and Vietnam and his actions earned him the National Medal of Honor.

Green Beret Clarence Adams of Darlington went from disarming bombs in Afghanistan to fighting for a job when he returned home in 2008.
