Darlington County’s unemployment rate decreased in September from 13.2 percent in August to 13.0 percent, bucking a statewide upward trend.

South Carolina’s unemployment rate dropped for the second month in a row in August, decreasing to 11.5 percent.

Millions of Americans are currently on unemployment and according to the labor department 65% of all those collecting unemployment will have their benefits run out by the end of August.

The South Carolina unemployment rate has risen once again, according to a new report by the S.C. Employment Security Commission. The report showed that unemployment rates in the state rose from 10.9 percent in February to 11.4 percent in March.

Unemployment numbers have shot up to a 16 year high. Last week, new claims rose by 27,000. In the Pee Dee there’s also not much relief, within the past year several companies like Wellman Inc. have closed or laid off workers.

Six out of seven counties in the Pee Dee, as well as the state, have shown an increase in unemployment in April compared with March, according to the S.C. Employment Security Commission’s monthly report released Friday.
