Phillip Morris will be a Tennessee Titan after all.

Former Timmonsville and S.C. State standout Phillip Morris was cut Friday by the Titans as teams trimmed their rosters down to 53.

Timmonsville opens up its season this Friday night at Lee Central the winds lose their one two punch in the backfield.

Two of the Pee Dee’s top players signed to play collegiate basketball Thursday. Timmonsville’s Jonathan Jones is headed to Spartanburg Methodist while Darlington’s Brad Knox is off to Brunswick Community College.

Phillip Morris will get his chance to play in the NFL. The former Timmonsville and South Carolina State standout signed a two-year free agent contract Monday with the Tennessee Titans.

Timmonsville’s Antonio Jones signed a letter of intent Thursday to play for Garden City College in Kansas. Jones hopes to wind up in Division I after two years, coach Jimmy Woods said.

The contents of the former Timmonsville High School in Florence School District 4 will be up for sale in May.

By the time their respective seasons are over, Timmonsville and Lamar will know each other very well. In the second of four meetings between rivals separated by just six miles, Timmonsville turned relentless defense into transition offense as the Whirlwinds downed the Silver Foxes, 74-61.

For Lake City, Monday’s game was another step in the right direction, coach Willie Thomas said. For Timmonsville, it was a much-needed reality check, coach Gerald Wright said.

Growing up, Antonio McAllister was given the nickname “Bubba” by his mom and his cousin for his love affair with chewing any and all types of bubble gum.

The Jimmy Woods era begins in Timmonsville. Woods replaces Whirlwind icon Bill Tate, whom the stadium is named after.
