Southern 500 tickets go on sale Saturday
Tickets for the 2010 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway go on-sale to the public Saturday. The famed 500-mile race will once again take place on Saturday night of Mother’s Day weekend and will be preceded by the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 on Friday evening.

Deputies foil counterfeiting ring at raceway
Fifteen people were arrested after Darlington County sheriff’s deputies foiled a large counterfeit T-shirt ring that was operating near Darlington Raceway during the races over the weekend.

Mellower Martin enjoying recent success
Being optimistic has never been one of Mark Martin’s strong points. For years, Martin has been known for his negative nature as much as his legendary workout routine. But these days, Martin is a different man, treating things with child-like exuberance instead.

At this rate, Mark Martin might never want to retire. The 50-year-old, who announced earlier this week he will race another full season next year, won the Southern 500 on Saturday at Darlington Raceway.

Mack Lemmons, 87, bought a piece of property across from the Darlington Raceway 39 years ago that had a dilapidated house on it. He had ideas of constructing a building that would house a bait and tackle shop on one side and a liquor store on the other. He knew a lot of people traveled the road and most of them drank liquor.
Martin takes wreck filled Southern 500
If Mark Martin keeps winning like this, even he might have to concede that he’s racing for a Sprint Cup championship. The 50-year-old Martin won for the second time in the last four races, outlasting Jimmie Johnson in a wreck-filled show at Darlington Raceway on Saturday night.

NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield fails drug test
NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield has been suspended indefinitely after failing a random drug test. The result stems from a test last weekend at Richmond International Raceway. NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter will not reveal what banned drug Mayfield used.
