It was a long time coming, but Darlington County and Society Hill town officials broke ground Saturday morning on the site where a new public library will be built for Society Hill.

The Society Hill Branch of the Darlington County Library and the library at Rosenwald Elementary/ Middle School in Society Hill are among the 3,000 school and public libraries throughout the country selected by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to receive a collection of 17 classic books from the We the People Bookshelf project.
