The Coker men’s soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Queens at Marion Diehl Park.

Senior Kyle Clinton and sophomore Emerson Peredo scored second-half goals as Francis Marion rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Lander 2-2, in men’s soccer action.

The Coker men’s soccer team (7-1-1) made history this season, ranking No. 21 in Tuesday’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and earning a No. 3 ranking in the Southeast region. Both are the highest rankings in the program’s history.

Head Coach Paul Leese is a big part of that success, but he said the team’s strong work ethic and team spirit led to that success.

Francis Marion junior defender Justin Kibler has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27, while junior Clark Richeson was named the PBC’s Goalkeeper of the Week.

Kiley Williams and Angela Salem scored second-half goals but Francis Marion University was unable to overcome a 3-0 deficit and the Patriots lost to Charleston Southern 3-2 on Sunday in women’s soccer action.

FLORENCE – In a match that featured only five shots-on-goals in 110 minutes of play, Francis Marion University and Appalachian State University battled to a 0-0 tie, Sunday afternoon in non-conference women’s soccer action.

Coker’s Daniel Shirzad’s goal in the match’s 75th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Cobras defeated Erskine 3-2 on Saturday in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action.

Junior midfielder Chris Foltanski headed in the rebound of a shot off the crossbar with 19:59 remaining to lift Francis Marion to a 2-1 win over Mount Olive College, Wednesday in non-conference men’s soccer action.
