Sophomore Lee Squires scored three goals to lift Lees-McRae College to a season-opening 4-2 victory over Francis Marion University, Friday night (Aug. 29) in men’s soccer action.

Junior forward Jill Hutchinson scored a first-half goal and assisted on a second-half tally to lead 20th-ranked Wake Forest University to a 3-0 non-conference win over Francis Marion University, Friday afternoon in women’s soccer action.

Belmont Abbey favored in Conference Carolinas preseason women’s soccer poll
The Belmont Abbey College women’s soccer team has been picked to lead Conference Carolinas for the third-straight year. The Abbey has won the conference title two out of the last three seasons, and returns 13 players from last year’s team that allowed just one goal en route to a perfect 11-0-0 mark in Conference play.

FMU women’s soccer team posts 2008 schedule
The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team, entering its second season as an NCAA Division I independent, has released its 2008 schedule. The slate, which includes 12 matches against teams which posted winning marks in 2007 and five squads that completed in last year’s NCAA Tournament, is arguably the toughest ever assembled for the Patriots.

Pee Dee players take part in last high school soccer match
The North Boys claimed a 3-1 win while the North Girls scored in the 83rd minute to salvage a 1-1 tie in the 20th-annual North-South Soccer Classic on Saturday. In the girls’’ match, Randall Dominguez of Brookland-Cayce High School scored in the 5th minute to put the South up 1-0.
