This week, there will be eight blood drives for the American Red Cross in the Pee Dee area.

Both Pee Dee and Grand Strand chapters of the American Red Cross are busy doing what they do best, helping others.

After a series of heavy rains earlier this summer caused leaking in the decades-old American Red Cross chapter building in Florence, work crews showed up to try to help the situation on Thursday morning.

The local American Red Cross is really faced with a challenge. We have had an issue with our building leaking for quite awhile now. We can no longer expect patching to work. Each time we patch it just moves to another area and gets worse. We now have an issue with equipment being damaged! All the funds that we raise go directly to operations, and we have no reserves.  We have a $50,000 quote to put a membrane on our building. One organization you always see in times of need, is now seeking some help of its own. The Pee Dee chapter of the American Red Cross says it has serious issues with a leaking roof on its building.
