Smetana named to SC All-Star game
Former West Florence and current Francis Marion player Austin Smetana has been chosen to play in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All Star game July 12 at Wofford College.

Sumter pitcher signs with FMU
FLORENCE — Francis Marion baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Drew Watcher of Sumter to a national letter of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots in 2009.
FMU women add fourth transfer
The Francis Marion’s women’s basketball team pick up its four Division I transfer.
Guard Robin Colbert (5-10) announced she owill transfer from Appalachian State University to FMU and join the Patriots this fall. Colbert played one season for the Mountaineers and will have three years of eligibility at Francis Marion.

FMU basketball adds Furman transfer
The Francis Marion men’s basketball team bolstered its frontcourt with the addition of Stanley Jones.
Jones, a Miami native, joins the Patriots after spending the past three season at Furman. He will have one year of eligibility left.

FMU softball gets two transfers
Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced that first baseman Tamela Bell of Covington, Ga., and right-handed pitcher Emily Dean of Edmonds, Wash., Fla., will transfer to FMU and play for the Patriots next spring.

Former Francis Marion standout and Chesterfield native Dylan Owen pitched a scoreless inning of relief Saturday in the Florida State League All-Star game.

FMU volleyball team signs four
The Francis Marion volleyball added four players to its signing class this week.
Outside hitter Ashlee Crook of Parker, Colo., setter/defensive specialist Hallie Legg of Uniontown, Ohio, outside hitter Amanda Mitchell of Knoxville, Tenn., and middleblocker Ardelia Morris of Ocoee, Fla., signed letter of intents to play for the Patriots.
Patriot tennis player Jezovicova named Academic All-American
Francis Marion University women’s tennis player Magda Jezovicova has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women’s at-large team for the College Division.
The Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic, native was named to the 15-player first-team. She was the only player from a Palmetto State school to make the College Division All-America squad.
