For most people, dragging your family across the country to work is a foreign idea; even going cross-country for a vacation is unusual for many. However, Ken and Joy Stone of Madison, N.Y., take an opposite mindset when it comes to traveling with their family, even when their family numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

For the past 30 years, the Wildlife Action chapter in Mullins has been teaching its members the true meaning of independence and self-reliance. While it provides a wide range of camps, for ages 6-14, some are designed to personify the definition of the outdoors.

At the newly re-opened Fishin’ Hole near Mullins, the Cooks are hoping to keep family first, spend time with friends and make a little money in the process by serving the community.

Mullins police officers make arrests

Mullins Police officers arrested two men on June 11 in connection with a robbery at a home on Idlewood Court on June 3 and several others in recent days for robberies in the town.

A man has been arrested in connection with a Mullins convenience store robbery.

Genesis II Apartments have opened in Mullins for senior citizens on a fixed income. One of the complex’s buildings is now named the Mack T. Hines Community Building. For information about living at Genesis II Apartments, call Lynn Hall at (800) 632-3066.

What began as a concept from visiting elderly church members in what was called “a not so good part” of Mullins manifested itself Sunday afternoon at the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony of Genesis II Apartments Inc.

The City of Mullins will have a public hearing on June 5, before adopting an increase on business license fees. The public hearing will also cover an increase in water, sewer and sanitation rates, along with an increase in police fines before the June 12 regular meeting.

The City of Mullins has conducted one special election. Another is set for July 15.

While police are still looking for clues in Kanisha McLaughlin’s death, her family is wondering why. “Yeah we were surprised, but we expected it, but it was surprising the way that it happened,“ said Jasmine Legette, McLaughlin’s sister.
