Marion County basketball teams continue fight for titles

Three varsity basketball teams from Marion County continue to fight through playoffs for a title: The Pee Dee Academy girls, Marion High School girls and Mullins High School boys teams are playing either today or Saturday.

Mullins boys headed to Class 2A lower state final

The Mullins boys basketball is headed back to the Class 2A lower state finals. The Auctioneers used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter on their way to a win Wednesday night over Kingstree 76-65.

Smith named region player of the year

Mullins Auctioneer point guard is awarded region 8-2A player of the year. Coach Mark Gerald named coach of the year. Additionally, Marion’s Geneika Brantly wond player of the year and Dillon coach won coach of the year in Region 8-2A.

Gerald, Aucs persevere through ups, downs

The Mullins Auctioneers entered this season with a new perspective. Not about basketball, but life. An undefeated 2007-08 campaign ended unceremoniously with a two-point loss to Burke in last year’s Class 2A lower state championship.

Mullins loses halftime lead, game to St. Patrick’s

Mullins held their own against the #2 ranked team in the country in the opening round of the Beach Ball Classic.  Too bad the game is not only 16 minutes.  St. Patrick’s (NJ) trailed at half before turning up the defensive pressure and cruising to a 71-50 win.

Wilson boys rout Mullins

Tuesday’s game between Mullins and Wilson pitted two of the top programs in the Pee Dee against each other in a rare non-region marquee matchup. But after it was over, even Tigers coach Bob Wilson couldn’t believe the margin of victory.
