Scholarship established in memory of Marion High student
The Jonathan Chase Lee Scholarship has been established at Francis Marion University by his family. Lee, a senior from Marion High School, drowned in the Little Pee Dee River on May 22 after becoming trapped in a current.

Auctioneers feed off fumbles for victory

Cheraw Braves back in business
Heading into the season, there was a rumor circulating around Pee Dee football circles that Cheraw football was down. With the loss of standouts like Travis Small, Kenyatta Gary and Montrell Evans, there was nothing to prove the rumors untrue.

Dillon continues dominance over Marion
Since 2000, Dillon’s football team has found nothing but success against Marion. Friday night, the decade of dominance continued. The Wildcats combined a first-half outburst with stifling defense to earn their ninth consecutive victory over the Swamp Foxes, 34-12 at Fox Field.

Dillon expects tough game from Marion
The Dillon Wildcats and Marion Swamp Foxes set for key Region 8-2A clash. The Wildcats’ last official loss to Marion came in 2000. The Swamp Foxes’ 35-13 win in 2006 was forfeited because of Marion’s use of an ineligible player.

Marion School District One high school students exhibited the highest overall increase in composite SAT scores compared with 18 other Pee Dee districts, based on analysis of the 2009 statewide data released by the SC State Department of Education.

Bears outlast Foxes in opener
Running back Darius Chestnut leads Carvers Bay with 169 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-24 victory over Marion at Fox Field this past Friday. The Bears running back gained steam in the second half as the first game of the season tested the endurance of the Foxes in the final two quarters.

Head Coach Bryan Carfley and Foxes are feeling good about their squad coming into the season. In his third year, Carfley said he’s been impressed with the play of his defense and stable of running backs. The Swamp Foxes open the regular season against Carvers Bay tonight at Fox Field.

Jonathan “Chase” Lee was known for many things in the halls of Marion High School — his years on the baseball team, his standout abilities as a student — but he was perhaps best known for his compassion as a person.
