Marion County school districts receive federal stimulus funds

Marion County school districts will receive $264,000 in federal stimulus funds from the South Carolina Budget and Control Board’s State Energy Office to make energy efficiency improvements.

School districts awarded grant funds

Forty-four school districts are receiving approximately $7.3 million in federal Enhancing Education Through Technology (E2T2)/ARRA Round 9 Competitive Grants.

Marion Intermediate School awarded technology education grant

Marion School District One is one step closer to assisting teachers and students in the use of cutting edge technology, thanks to a $162,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Education. 

Dillon man arrested, charged with engaging in sex acts with 13-year-old girl

A 29-year-old Dillon County man is facing charges after police said he engaged in sexual acts with a 13-year-old girl in Marion, according to a press release issued Friday by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Cleanup continues after train derails

Railroad crews continue to clean up wreckage after a train derailed in downtown Mullins Monday morning.

Mullins coal train derailment has streets closed

A train derailment in downtown Mullins has several streets blocked off, including Main Street. Mullins City Administrator Pete Rogers said 11 train cars from the Carolina Southern Railroad Company derailed early Monday morning along Mullins Street.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office hosted the first annual Operation Blue Tornado on Oct. 6 and 7. Operation Blue Tornado was a multi-agency effort to enhance traffic safety on the major highways throughout Marion County and to curtail illegal activity.

According to the SC Employment Security Commission, the most recent statistics show Marion County’s unemployment rate at 20.9% in August. This is down slightly from July’s rate, of 21.2%.
