Library putting overdue book fines towards food donations

The library is an eclectic place – that varied mix is perhaps its greatest appeal.

Some of the world’s favorite crime and thriller authors have been busy – all types of “good guys” and “bad guys” (and girls) abound in these selected titles.

Library usage statistics from last year show that during times of economic downturn such as we are experiencing – public libraries become more important than ever. 

Here’s the second installment of new Large Print highlights.  It’s a pleasant way to unwind after a busy day –agreeable entertainment and no strain on the eyes.  So choose mystery, love stories, or mysterious love stories. Better yet – take all four.

As the number of patrons (i.e. the baby boomers) who celebrate the marching on of time with happy birthdays continues to grow, the number of our regular Large Print readers keeps growing as well.  Unfortunately, our space does not.  The Large Print shelves are bursting – so help us out. 

What’s in your wallet?  Hopefully, a Marion County Library borrower’s card.  Your library card is your free access to computers, books, online databases and much more.

If you love to laugh as much as I do, you won’t want to miss these hilarious new picture books that just arrived at the Marion County Library.

Shan Coughlin gave a group of Marion County librarians and business owners guidance on building client relationships by using the Internet’s Facebook and Twitter.

The Marion Lions Club has donated 10 books dealing with Diabetic Education to the Marion County Library. These bocks will be available to the general public at the library.

Marion County Library’s Capital Campaign Expansion project received an unexpected boost this week. Thanks to the efforts of Elista Smith, a member of the Capital Campaign Finance Committee, the library received a $5,000 donation from the UNAKA Foundation of Greenville, Tennessee.

The library is truly a microcosm of our community and I can think of no better place to begin bridging the generation gap and many other socio-economic gaps in our society, than by working together to create a place that can be enjoyed by and shared by all.
