Local college’s Tech Stars program wins $600,000
Florence-Darlington Technical College-based Next Generation Tech Stars program has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM) program.

Marion County educators focusing on collaborative future

Marion County students selected for state All-Health Team
Marion Intermediate students have been selected for the All-Health Team, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today. DHEC and WIS-TV sponsor the All-Health Team. Each month, the partnership recognizes an individual or youth group promoting health in their community.
Committee helps keep MCTEC’s training current
The Marion County Technical Education Center had its Craft Advisory Committee meeting this past week, one of two conducted each year. The event allows program instructors to consult with advisors with knowledge of various trades that relate to the programs.

Leaders attend First Steps training
Marion County First Steps sponsored childcare training for local providers in August and September. The attendees represented Little Promises Daycare, Emanuel’s Daycare, Pleasant Grove Academy and Troy Johnson’s Learning Korner. All participants received three DSS credit hours and more knowledge about caring for infants.
Levy crowned Miss Maroon and Gold
Caylee Levy was crowned Miss Maroon and Gold 2008. Levy is the daughter of Charlie and Anna Levy and James and Candice Huggins and is an active two-year member of the yearbook staff. This year, she is serving as business manager. She has been a member of the Interact club for three years where she is serving as vice-president.
