The virus, referred to as “swine flu,“ is a new strain of influenza virus and has caused illness in an estimated 70 countries. Recently, the World Health Organization declared the virus a pandemic.

The United Fund of Marion County benefits county residents through its support of firefighters, the Council of Aging, and the Department of Social Services Bare Cupboard and Traveler’s Aid programs, among many others. The books for the 2008-09 Campaign need to be closed out. Give a donation today!

Be quick to help, slow to be duped
To recover from losing it all is difficult but the help of others is a salve to a healing wound. First it was the comaraderie of firefighters from all departments and areas of the state that helped stem the tide of the seemingly relentless fire. About 40 folks from Marion County, with Marion County’s well-being and future at the heart of their discussions, gathered with an international tourism group’s officials on March 25. Similarly interested folks in other areas gathered on March 26 in Dillon and in Kingstree, meeting with the same international officials.

Marion’s Bobby Gerald leaves legacies
When he died on March 22 from complications of a heart attack, Marion’s Bobby Gerald was likely still thinking of ways to improve Marion, the city and county, and ways in which to enhance the life for its residents and those who visit and work in his home town. It is his legacy that will outlive him.
