During an update to council members during this past week, Marion County administrator Tim Harper informed council that plans to increase the size of the Marion County Industrial Park could get some much needed assistance.

Marion County Council members are preparing for another tri-county council meeting with Dillon and Marlboro County.
Council members open the new round of quarterly meetings in Dillon at 6 p.m. Tuesday night, county administrator Tim Harper said.

County Administrator Tim Harper told Marion County Council members during their meeting on Dec. 8 that he had just received word from the USDA Natural Resources and Conservation program that it has authorized more than a half a million dollars to clean out the county’s Catfish Creek.

Ron Gilkerson, representing Griffin Brothers, addressed the Marion County Council, giving them an update regarding the county’s landfill on Red Bluff Road and requesting that council allow the landfill to eliminate, at least for a while, its half-day Saturday schedule.

Among other things at their most recent council meeting, Marion County Council members okayed a fee agreement with Mullins’ SO-PAK-CO for its expansion project.

During a public hearing about the county’s leasing of its animal shelter to Paws to the Rescue, the topic of fostering animals came up. The county will seek to clarify its position on the fostering of animals in the county.

Marion County Council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance authorizing the posting for sale of the old Marion County jail on U.S. Highway 76.

The Marion County-owned property along U.S. Highway 76 near the corner of its juncture with Main Street may soon be offered for sale. County Council Committee 2 will have a meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 to discuss the county’s new family courtroom and the county’s animal shelter and council members had planned to meet on Aug. 19 in the administration office, but have canceled that meeting, according to the county’s Clerk to Council, Sabrina Davis.
