Country administrator County Council members debate request from the Marion County Transportation Committee for more funding.

A representative of Carolina AAC, said that a new grant from the Economic Development Administration would soften the cost of bringing new jobs to Marion County alleviating the cost of taxpayer dollars.

Following a closed session to discuss an economic development issue and acquisition of property, Marion County Council members agreed to have the county’s administrator to seek an engineering and architectural firm to evaluate the potential county use of the old Marion Hospital

After this past Thursday’s public hearing, Marion County Council members adopted the 2009-10 fiscal year budget, which includes a four-mil increase for property owners.

Marion County Administrator Tim Harper said at a budget workshop that Council member Allen Floyd asked him to look into alternatives to the county’s plan to place the county’s central EMS site in the soon-to-be-built City of Marion fire substation on Sen. In addition to the budget workshops this week, councils have other business to contend with. During this past week’s Marion County Council meeting, council members granted second reading approval of the proposed budget of $16,292,450 for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Among other things, Marion County Council members reviewed a lease agreement with the City of Marion regarding a new fire substation agreement at it’s meeting this past week.

Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson appeared before Marion County Council May 12 to discuss his spending of money received from grants and state drug forfeiture money.

Marion County Council members learned Thursday night that the county has a budget surplus, but auditing deficiencies.
